Daisy loves to ride with the wind in her face in the car. So a safe trip on the motorcycle seemed like the next best adventure for her.
WARNING!
While this looks cute and like it is a lot of fun, the decision to ride a dog on a motorcycle must be weighed carefully.
You don't want to put others on the road, yourself, your dog, or your motorcycle in jeopardy.
Daisy has been to dog training. She is well-trained, very well-behaved, and also very used to riding in cars. So a ride on the motorcycle seemed feasible. For about a year, I did research online about safety, checked with police, got her some doggles (doggles.com), added a mat for traction on the tank, and devised a harness to hook us together so she would not fall. I slowly introduced her to everything (which she had no problems with riding or wearing the safety gear), working our way up to a trip into town. I only plan to take her on roads that provide medium or low (safer) speeds.
It seems that she enjoyed it quite a bit. Me too. And of course, we produced lots of smiles from onlookers, including bank tellers along the way on our morning errands. We won't be riding a lot like this, but I think she will like it as a nice "treat" every now and then.
Photos where I don't have protective clothing or the harness on were early test rides (to see how she would react) at low speeds in the park where there is practically no traffic.
